Data
Quicklooks

We invite you to browse monthly and seasonal summaries of Earth’s brightness temperature for selected mid- and far-infrared wavelengths, as observed by the PREFIRE CubeSats.
Data Products
| Name | Brief description of data product contents |
1A‑RAD | Calibrated spectral radiances and brightness temperatures (not geolocated) |
1B‑RAD | Geolocated, calibrated spectral radiances and brightness temperatures |
AUX‑MET | Contextual surface and atmosphere conditions from NASA GEOS-IT (a 3D meteorological dataset), valid at the location of each PREFIRE measurement |
AUX‑SAT | Contextual surface conditions from other selected Earth-observing satellites, valid at the location of each PREFIRE measurement |
2B‑MSK | Cloud mask and cloud probability |
2B‑SFC | Retrieved spectral surface emissivity (clear-sky only) |
2B‑ATM | Retrieved column water vapor, surface temperature, and water vapor and temperature profiles with coarse vertical resolution (clear-sky only) |
2B‑FLX | Spectral top-of-atmosphere flux and total outgoing longwave radiation |
2B‑CLD | Retrieved estimates of cloud optical depth, cloud-top pressure, and cloud particle effective diameter (cloudy-sky only) |
The 1A‑RAD, 1B‑RAD, AUX‑MET, and AUX‑SAT data products currently span the globe. All other data products are currently produced only for latitudes poleward of about 60 degrees.
Data Availability
The PREFIRE project started science operations (after in-orbit checkout) in early summer 2024, with standard science data acquired
- for PREFIRE-SAT1 on and after 2024-07-24 @ 20:45:50 UTC
- for PREFIRE-SAT2 on and after 2024-06-29 @ 21:18:39 UTC
PREFIRE mission and science data products are hosted by the NASA Atmospheric Science Data Center. They can be accessed via NASA Earthdata Search.
